Family History From Scotland and Beyond... by Erin Galloway Cooper

As promised, here is a little history of our ancesters: SAMUEL GALLOWAY, SR., was born in the southwestern part of Scotland, circa 1685; he died between 1720 and 1744.He married Elizabeth Graham, circa 1710. She was born in the Galloway District of Scotland; she died in Pennsylvania, killed by the Indians, in 1755. After their marriage, Samuel and Elizabeth stayed in Scotland until after 1720, as members of the House of Stuart. Because they were Protestants, they were subjected to terrible persecutions. To escape, they emigrated across the Irish Sea to settle in County Antrim, Ulster, Ireland. Because in County Antrim (which is now in Northern Ireland) the Scots endured the same inflictions as in their homeland, many decided to make the move to the "New World". Among these adventuresome families were our ancestors. It is believed that they entered the colonies through the port of Philadelphia prior to 1743.

In the near future, I'll put the newspaper article of the death of Elizabeth's "Betsy" death...
