Some of my favorite times were setting on the front porch of that old cinder block house watching the birds and wildlife come in the yard. It maybe a covey of quail or a squirrel coming to eat a little corn or just a song bird coming to entertain us with his whistling. If the baseball game was on radio, radio would be turned up so we could hear game. Speaking of ball games, we would listen to St. Louis Cardinals, if the Cubs weren't playing Grandma's favorite announcer was Jack Buck. She loved the way Jack would pronounce the names and spell them also. Grandad least favorite announcer was Harry Carey (HOLY COW). How ironic the year after Grandad passed away, Harry went to the Cubs to be their lead announcer. I believe Grandad loved baseball as much as quail hunting. I don't remember the year but I believe it was in Early '30's he killed 36 dozen and 4 quail in six weeks (436) for a company for a banquet in St. Louis. I know several have heard this story. Quail hunting supplemented the income of this couple, whether it be selling quails or taking in hunters. These business men who included were Frank Martens and Bill Loy. These are the two I remember. Breaking bird dogs was also a hobby (business) Grandad was not easy on his dogs and expected the same from his family (Donnie Preuss)?

Besides all the memories Tim speaks of, I remember Grandma's wonderful hugs...
