Throughout your life there are many people that influence your life. One of my heroes was my Great Grandma Galloway. She was a very caring kind Godly person. Who thought all the difficulty of life always had a positive outlook because of her faith in God. Always able to talk about the most fragile thing had great insight into life.
She would tell about things of her life that would make you laugh or cry. She taught you to survive. I was at her house a lot when growing up. Lookin’ back those were very precious to me. According to her everyone needed to learn how to cook, sew, and grow things. That may sound strange to some, but you have to remember these words come from a woman who raised 10 children during some of worst economic and trying times in our Country.
Canning everything from rabbit, squirrel, chicken and the usual garden vegetables. No one could make pickle pepper like she could, don't know the recipe she knew. Her cobbler crust, noodles with no recipe just a pinch of this and a little of that she always managed to make it taste good. There was always food on the table at 11:30 a.m. We always had dessert; a cobbler pie or fruit cake. After doing the dishes for which she had to heat the water on the stove to wash. She would retire to her chair to read her Bible and meditate on what she had read.
Cook anything Grandpa would bring in take an old tough squirrel pressure cook and roll the squirrel in flour then fry and make him taste like a young one. Then listen to her talk about her family and how they influence her to be what she was. She never took credit for what she did; as if, it was nothing that she done.
SOME OF HER (Grandma Galloway) SAYINGS
Listen twice as much as you speak, one has two ears and one mouth.
Sweep your own back porch before you start on someone elses.
You can live on a 3 acre track patch with two milk cows, four sows and a bunch of chickens. (I don't know how many chickens a bunch is but at one time she had a lot of chickens
